Originally published by Marvel in the late 1970′s, ‘Frankenstein’ was one of six books in a set that aimed to “re-tell” classic stories through comic-style graphic novels. In the early 80′s, legendary toy maker Fisher-Price re-published the comics, including fully produced audio recordings featuring voice actors, sound effects, and music that would guide you through the books. A “read-along” at first, most kids, including myself, eventually ditched the books and listened to the stories on tape. Over…and over. The magical thing that Fisher-Price accomplished with these now-extremely hard to find recordings was the depth and level of production quality they put into them.

This recording was a little tricky as my cassette tape has degraded badly over the years. Several times during recording, the audio would drop out, requiring physical “jiggling” and literal slaps to the Walkman for the audio to level out. I had to stop several times and rewind, as some parts were completely inaudible. After all this, I think we have here a pretty good transfer of this classic tape, and hopefully I’ve managed to preserve a piece of OUR childhood for the next generation! -Cheers (P.S. – Please LIKE us on Facebook!)

OMG! Thanks so much for recording this tape! I’ve been scouring the nets for a copy of this recording…even the actual tape is no longer on sale anywhere!! I appreciate the transfer! I was successfully able to transfer “Arabian Nights” & “Treasure Island” to a clear digital copy. I’m trying to track down Robin Hood, Alice & Wonderland & Robinson Crusoe! Thanks for helping to relive my childhood!

Hey Franco, thanks! We have those other recordings here! Minus Alice In Wonderland. Enjoy! More on the way.

Thanks again! Just found the Robin Hood! Appreciate the work you’re doing!

At certain points (especially on the Robin Hood audio recording) the audio tends to garble on the louder points. Is this because the tape itself was a bad copy, or the recording device was not properly balanced, or the source player’s volume is at too high a level?

I would love to help out and share with you my own recordings of the Arabian Nights & Treasure Island tapes. I ran the tapes through digitally straight into my computer and recorded it and balanced it from there.

Could you take a still photo (well lit & without glare) of the Frankenstein and Robin Hood tapes? I intend to use them for the album art I’m creating for the file.

    Hi Franco and Dave,

I was delighted to come across this post just now; one of the voice actors on this recording, Bari Biern, sent me the link, because she collaborated on this and other recordings (like the 1985 Robin Hood) with my father. I also see that you mention having a digital copy of Treasure Island and Arabian Nights. I was able to find Arabian Nights on this site, but not Treasure Island, and would love to have your copy of it if possible. You can contact me via twitter at @andpatton or email at andrew AT acusti POINT ca (with the corresponding symbols in place of the words I used).

Thanks so much! It is a delight to see these recordings again.

      Hi Andrew,

What character did Ms. Biern and your father play in these recordings? That is fantastic! It’s so hard trying to track down all these awesome voice actors that had a hand in these great recordings.
