Hans Brinker And The The Silver Skates was originally a novel by American author Mary Mapes Dodge, first published in 1865. The story takes place in the Netherlands, and is a colorful fictional portrait of early nineteenth-century Dutch life, as well as a tale of youthful honor.

The title refers to the beautiful silver skates to be awarded to winner of the ice-skating race Hans Brinker hopes to enter. The novel introduced the sport of Dutch speed skating to Americans, and in U.S. media Hans Brinker is still considered the prototypical speed skater.

These are great, I have about 16 different Fisher Price tapes, I would love to digitize some of the ones you don’t have and get them to you to upload here. I’m 36 and my kids are listening to the various Fisher Price stories. They love them. Keep up the great work. – Brooks

I would be happy to digitize any of the tapes for you as well. I have a 32 track studio and have done a few for some people. I always do the highest sample rate of MP3 or if requested, I will do a wav file. Let me know what fisher price tapes you have. I actually have a few copies that were released prior to the 80’s. I have the ones that were released in the 70’s……just a few though.

I wanted to thank you deeply for making this available to all, because listening to this (when it was just a little yellow cassette) was something my sister and I must have done a hundred times over when we were children. It became such a comfort that we’d begin to play it just to fall asleep. These days, as adults, we both assumed the recording was something alive only in our memories, but now not only am I eager to relive it myself, I am officially plotting the best way to present this to her on her next birthday. With utmost sincerity: I had always hoped this day would come.

Thanks for the kind words, Jeff! I did this just for people like us that grew up with these gems. I sincerely hope you guys enjoy these as much as I do! More to come.
