Last week, we reported that Edward James Olmos, who recently did a stint on season six of Showtime’s DEXTER had joined the cast of Robert Rodriguez’s MACHETE KILLS and now the actor is in negotiations to play the villain in Universal Pictures’ 2 GUNS.
The action flick already stars Mark Wahlberg and Denzel Washington with Baltasar Kormakur (CONTRABAND) directing from a script by Blake Masters. Bill Paxton is also in talks to star.
2 GUNS tells the story of a DEA agent (Washington) and an undercover naval intelligence officer (Wahlberg) who unwittingly investigate each other as each steals mob money. Paxton would play a high ranking CIA operative with Olmos taking on the role of Papi Greco, a dangerous Mexican druglord who runs up against the protags.
Emmett/Furla is co-financing the pic with Marc Platt, Andrew Cosby, Ross Richie, Randall Emmett and George Furla producing. No release date has been set but stay tuned.
2 GUNS is a pulp story about cops and thieves and the men that are something in between. Based on the original comic book was written by Steven Grant and illustrated by Mat Santolouco, Trench (Washington) has targeted a local bank to rob, and asked Steadman (Wahlberg) in on the job. Trench figures it’s a great way to score – considering it’s a cover for mob money. They’ll be thieves ripping off thieves. But what Steadman doesn’t know is that Trench is a DEA agent. And what Trench doesn’t know is that Steadman’s got his own secret and isn’t who he appears to be.
