Eli Roth and Russell Crowe To Team On Dracula Pic HARKER
Writer-director Eli Roth is in talks to direct Warner Bros. DRACULA pic HARKER which has Russell Crowe set to star. A reimagining of BRAM STOKER’S DRACULA, Lee Shipman and Brian McGreevy penned the script which has Crowe playing Dracula himself. He will be tracked by Jonathan Harker, a Scotland Yard detective. Crowe is only on board for the first film but Warners envisions a potential franchise here.
When Warners first acquired the spec script for HARKER, Jaume Collet-Serra (UNKNOWN) was attached to direct but the studio asked him to oversee production on AKIRA until the film based on the anime classic was shelved due to budget constraints. The director has since moved on to the action pic NONSTOP with Liam Neeson set to star so Warners is now negotiating with Roth instead.
Crowe and Roth recently worked together on the upcoming RZA-directed martial arts flick THE MAN WITH THE IRON FIRST which stars Crowe. Roth co-penned the script. HARKER will be produced by Appian Way and its partners Leonardo DiCaprio and Jennifer Davisson Killoran. Crowe will next be seen in LES MISERABLES which is due out in December and will soon begin filming Darren Aronofsky’s biblical epic NOAH. Roth is directing and exec-producing the Netflix TV project HEMLOCK GROVE.
