Heard and Oldman Exit MOTOR CITY

Albert Hughes’ (BOOK OF ELI) upcoming directorial project MOTOR CITY has had a hard time getting out of the starting gate. Filming was expected to begin in the spring with Gerard Butler, Gary Oldman and Amber Heard attached to star but after a delay in production and other film commitments, the latter two have decided to exit the project.

This is yet the latest in the revolving door of actors who have been attached to the project with Chris Evans, Dominic Cooper, Jake Gyllenhaal and Jeremy Renner all passing on the opportunity to star as the male lead, which ultimately went to Butler. MOTOR CITY tells the story of a small time crook (Butler) who is framed and sent to jail, then goes after those who put him there. Intriguingly enough, Butler’s character only has one line of dialogue so the film is no doubt in desperate need of a supporting cast.

Oldman, who will next be seen in THE DARK KNIGHT RISES was in line to play the film’s primary villain while Heard, who will soon begin filming MACHETE KILLS for director Robert Rodriguez was set to play Butler’s girlfriend. I wonder who will be in line for both roles next? Joel Silver’s Dark Castle Entertainment (a division of Silver Pictures) is on board to produce.
