Jessica Biel, who will next be seen in TOTAL RECALL opposite Colin Farrell and Kate Beckinsale has been offered a major role in 20th Century Fox’s THE WOLVERINE. Earlier this week, we reported that Will Yun Lee (TORQUE, “HAWAII FIVE-0”) had joined the cast to play villain The Silver Samurai, starring alongside the likes of Hugh Jackman, Hiroyuki Sanada, Hal Yamanouchi, Tao Okamoto, Rila Fukushima and Brian Tee.
With James Mangold (WALK THE LINE, 3:10 TO YUMA) at the helm working from a script by Christopher McQuarrie, Biel is said to be up for the role of Viper, a high-ranking officer in Hydra who, on occasion, comes into conflict with The Avengers and also has a complex backstory with Logan aka Wolverine.
I’m not to familiar with the character but according to Collider, Viper or Madame Hydra as she’s often called is said to be of Eastern European descent with her association with Wolverine involving a forced marriage through blackmail, mortal wounds due to spirit possession and, believe it or not, even actual emotional attachment. That fits into the proposed synopsis we have for the film which you can check out below.
THE WOLVERINE is set to shoot in Australia this August and will also film on location in Japan. Fox has already scheduled the film for release on July 26, 2013.
Logan (Jackman) begins a forbidden romance with a Japanese woman whose hand in marriage is, unfortunately has been promised to another man. Since Logan won’t take “no” for an answer, it puts him into battle with her father, her samurai-sword-wielding brothers and The Silver Samurai.
