A couple of days ago, we reported that Mike DeLuca and Dana Brunetti had been tapped to produce FIFTY SHADES OF GREY, Universal Pictures and Focus Features’ big screen adaptation of the bestselling trilogy from author E.L. James and now, Moviehole says Jim Piddock (“POLTERGEIST: THE LEGACY,” TOOTH FAIRY) has been hired to write the screenplay for the film.
Best known as an actor in such films as BEST IN SHOW, GET HIM TO THE GREEK and Christopher Nolan’s THE PRESTIGE Piddock will look to adapt the popular novel series which is steadily approaching 20 million copies sold so far. FIFTY SHADES OF GREY follows the relationship of 27-year-old billionaire Christian Grey and college student Anastasia Steele.
Subsequent novels in the series, FIFTY SHADES DARKER (September 2011) and FIFTY SHADES FREED (January 2012) explore the couple’s deepening relationship. Producers De Luca and Brunetti previously collaborated on THE SOCIAL NETWORK. Universal, if it indeed locks down Piddock as its scribe will now turn its attention to finding a director with Angelina Jolie’s name being mentioned as a potential candidate.
