New Actor Cast as Spiderman

Posted on by Adam Bunch

There’s a new Spider in town.

Well, after the last few months of seemingly playing out their casting call in the social media world, Sony (with Marvel’s influence/’help’) has finally selected an actor to be the new face of Spiderman, seemingly just as he is rumored to show up for filming in Captain America: Civil War

Just a short few weeks ago, it seemed that most media sites had narrowed down the field to these final 5 choices: Ender’s Game’s Asa Butterfield, The Fault in Our Stars’ Nat Wolff, The Killing’s Liam James, In the Heart of the Sea’s Tom Holland, and Interstellar’s Timothee Chalamet.

That choice has now been made & announced. Your new Peter Parker / Spider-man is:

Tom Holland

Does whatever a Spider can

Does whatever a Spider can

It has been previously stated by Marvel Studios’ dictator/czar/producer Kevin Feige that he wanted a high school attending Parker, and with Holland (18) we may actually believe it for the first time as he is about a decade younger than the last 2 who put on the tights with Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield being 26 and 28 years old, respectively when they started shooting web.

While no other casting or characters were revealed, they did give us the word on who has been picked to direct the web-crawlers next reboot. While the early word was that Drew Goddard (Marvel’s Daredevil) was being tapped to write and direct the movie, slated for July 2017; apparently Sony has taken Feige’s mentality of not being willing to work with directors who are capable of speaking up and standing up for themselves, so they have gone with the largely unknown Jon Watts. Watts who directed Kevin Bacon in last year’s Cop Car (I’m not making that up) is probably best (only) known for directing episodes of The Onion News Network back in 2011.

So what do you think Amigos? Are you ready for another reboot of Marvel’s famous teenage superhero? Do you want yet another origin story, or do you wish that we could just jump into the character? Any maybe the biggest question, do you actually think that Sony and Marvel can actually play nice together long enough to put this movie in theaters only 2 years from now, with nothing but an outline to go on so far?  We shall see, but in the meantime……EXCELSIOR!
