Samuel L. Jackson Joins Cast of MGM’s ROBOCOP Remake

Late last month we reported that Gary Oldman had inked a deal to star opposite Joel Kinnaman in MGM’s upcoming ROBOCOP remake and now Nick Fury himself Samuel L. Jackson is joining the cast as well! Jose Padilha (ELITE SQUAD) is directing the film, which is being produced by Strike Entertainment’s Marc Abraham and Eric Newman. Jackson will play Pat Novak, a charismatic TV mogul and a powerful force in the Robocop world.

Kinnaman plays the title character, a cop named Alex Murphy who is brought back from the brink of death and turned into a cyborg police officer. Oldman will play Norton, the scientist who creates Robocop and finds himself torn between the ideals of the machine trying to rediscover its humanity and the callous needs of a corporation.

While no start date has been set, the sci-fi actioner is expected to shoot in Toronto with a August 9, 2013 release date already in play. James Vanderbilt (THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN) penned the script.
