SDCC12: Joss Whedon NOT Confirmed For AVENGERS 2… Yet!

Posted on by Dave

Marvel’s THE AVENGERS is kind of a big deal right? Had the highest grossing opening weekend of all time domestically back in May ($207.4M) and currently sits at No. 3 on the list of all time worldwide grosses with $1.45 billion. Be that as it may, director Joss Whedon said today during a Comic-Con press conference for FIREFLY’s 10-year anniversary that he hasn’t committed to making the sequel to Disney’s blockbuster film, one that he directed and co-wrote.

“I have not come to a decision on directing AVENGERS 2 yet,” he said. “I am having too much fun with this (FIREFLY reunion) now.”

The first film starred Robert Downey, Jr., Chris Hemsworth, Chris Evans, Jeremy Renner, Mark Ruffalo, Scarlett Johansson, Clark Gregg, Samuel L. Jackson, Cobie Smulders, Tom Hiddleston, Stellan Skarsgard and Gwyneth Paltrow with Johansson recently making headlines with news of her $20M paycheck to appear in the sequel. No release date has been set obviously but locking down director Joss Whedon has to be a top priority for both Marvel and Disney. Right? We’ll keep you posted.
