The Weinstein Company has released a brand new trailer for it’s upcoming crime-drama LAWLESS. Directed by John Hillcoat who worked from a script by Nick Cave, the film (formerly titled THE WETTEST COUNTY) stars Tom Hardy, Shia LaBeouf, Jason Clarke, Jessica Chastain, Mia Wasikowska, Guy Pearce, Gary Oldman, Noah Taylor and up and comer Dane DeHaan (CHRONICLE). TWC will distribute the film theatrically on August 31. LAWLESS will more than likely premiere at the Venice Film Festival just a few days earlier when the festival kicks off on August 29.
Set in depression-era Franklin County, Virginia, LAWLESS follows a trio of brothers (Hardy, LaBeouf, Clarke), moonshiners in a family-run bootlegging gang that is threatened by authorities who want a cut of their profits. Brazen and fearless, these young rebel brothers helped build the American Dream in this exuberant tale of what was to become crime’s first major gold rush. Inspired by true-life tales of author Matt Bondurant’s family in his novel “The Wettest County In The World,” the loyalty of three brothers is put to the test against the backdrop of the nation’s most notorious crime wave.
