Join host David Mayne for a far-out evening of epic space and sci-fi adventures as we broadcast two original episodes of the 50’s cult classic radio program, X Minus One, along with commentary and special guests!
On this episode:
Perigi’s Wonderful Dolls
A thoroughly enjoyable little story about a cozy looking old-fashioned toy shop and magical, human like dolls. In true 1950’s style the tale revolves around mysterious flying spheres and secret investigations by the Pentagon. A great little thriller! A doll maker sells a father an unusual doll which seems capable of responding to people, presumably by recording voices and replaying them in its own voice. Is it just a bit of technical wizardry, or is there something more to this doll than meets the eye?
The Green Hills of Earth
It is the story of “Noisy” Rhysling, the blind space-going songwriter whose poetic skills rival Rudyard Kipling’s. Heinlein (himself a medically retired U.S. naval officer) spins a yarn about a radiation-blinded spaceship engineer crisscrossing the solar system writing and singing songs. The story takes the form of a nonfiction magazine article.
